About Aspergers K-W Support Network

The Aspergers K-W Support Network is a newly formed organization of sorts that has as its first mandate the setting up and running of an activity group for adults with Asperger's in the K-W area.

This activity group is being set up and organized right now.

Meetings are scheduled when members want to get together. However, due to some of the challenges inherent with Aseprger's Syndrome, currently, most of our contact is via email, some phone conversations, and small meetings every few months. We will be glad to initiate and support a montly meeting when there is a demand for that.

Please check back here as we will list the date of the first activity group meeting as soon as we have it set up and ready to go.

Interested in a group and making connections but find the whole idea stressful?

If you are a person with Asperger's Syndrome, it is quite understandable that as much as you may want to come out to this group and make friends you may also be equally as scared or hesitant about doing so.

I am an adult with Asperger's Syndrome and I can relate to and understand both wanting to go to a group and wanting to get to know people but feeling like it might be overwhelming and/or anxiety-producing. What I have learned in my life so far with Asperger's is that from time to time to find a bit of middle ground between isolation and sharing time with others we have to find ways to cope with the anxiety of doing something new and of taking risks. Not easy stuff at all. But important and valuable stuff for sure.

Everyone who comes out to this group will be accepted and respected for who they are. Each group member will be encouraged to be who they are too. We don't need to pretend to be "normal" or pretend to be the way we think others want us to be. If you are interested in coming out to the group please feel free to give me a call to ask any questions you might have. Also I'd like to hear what you would like to do in a group - what activities you like or what your interests are and what you enjoy talking about. It is also okay to come out to the group and decide you don't want to talk. We will all have to slowly get to know each other so that we can feel comfortable with each other and begin to talk to each other. You can email us at aspergerskw@rogers.com.
